In 2006 Julie was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for services to sport, the Community, The Australian Olympic Drug Education Program and fundraising for Charities.

Julie represented Australia at 2 Olympics & 2 Commonwealth Games winning an Olympic Bronze in 1988 in 800m Freestyle and 2 Gold & 2 Silver Medals at the 1986 and 1990 Commonwealth Games. She held the Commonwealth Record for the 800m Freestyle for over 21 years – one of Australia’s longest standing records.
